わたしの内に、すなわち、わたしの肉の内には、善なるものが宿っていないことを、わたしは知っている。なぜなら、善をしようとする意志は、自分にあるが、それをする力がないからである。すなわち、わたしは、内なる人としては神の律法を喜んでいるが、わたしの肢体には別の律法があって、わたしの心の法則に対して戦いをいどみ、そして、肢体に存在する罪の法則の中に、わたしをとりこにしているのを見る。 ■ 肉の欲するところは御霊に反し、また御霊の欲するところは肉に反するからである。こうして、二つのものは互に相さからい、その結果、あなたがたは自分でしようと思うことを、することができないようになる。 [ロマ7:18,22,23 | ガラ5:17]

The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak. [Matt.26:41]

In the way of thy judgments, O Lord, have we waited for thee; the desire of our soul is to thy name, and to the remembrance of thee. With my soul have I desired thee in the night; yea, with my spirit within me will I seek thee early. [Isa.26:8,9]

I know that in me, [that is, in my flesh] dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not. For I delight in the law of God after the inward man: but I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members. ■ The flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would.
