あなたを恐れる者にかかわる約束をあなたのしもべに堅くしてください。そうすれば、わたしをそしる者に、答えることができます。わたしはあなたのみ言葉に信頼するからです。どうか、あなたのしもべに言われたみ言葉を思い出してください。あなたはわたしにそれを望ませられました。あなたの定めはわが旅の家で、わたしの歌となりました。あなたの口のおきては、わたしのためには幾千の金銀貨幣にもまさるのです。ヨード主よ、あなたのみ言葉は天においてとこしえに堅く定まり、あなたのまことはよろずよに及びます。 [詩119:38,42,49,54,72,89,90]

そこで、神は、約束のものを受け継ぐ人々に、ご計画の不変であることを、いっそうはっきり示そうと思われ、誓いによって保証されたのである。それは、偽ることのあり得ない神に立てられた二つの不変の事がらによって、前におかれている望みを捕えようとして世をのがれてきたわたしたちが、力強い励ましを受けるためである。この望みは、わたしたちにとって、いわば、たましいを安全にし不動にする錨であり、かつ「幕の内」にはいり行かせるものである。その幕の内に、イエスは、･･･わたしたちのためにさきがけとなって、はいられたのである。 [ヘブ6:17-20]

Do as thou hast said. [II Sam.7:25]

Stablish thy word unto thy servant, who is devoted to thy fear. So shall I have wherewith to answer him that reproacheth me: for I trust in thy word. Remember the word unto thy servant, upon which thou hast caused me to hope. Thy statutes have been my songs in the house of my pilgrimage. The law of thy mouth is better unto me than thousands of gold and silver. For ever, O Lord, thy word is settled in heaven. Thy faithfulness is unto all generations. [Psa.119:38,42,49,54,72,89,90]

God, willing more abundantly to shew unto the heirs of promise the immutability of his counsel, confirmed it by an oath; that by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us: which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast, and which entereth into that within the veil; whither the forerunner is for us entered, even Jesus. [Heb.6:17-20]
