僕はその主人にまさるものではなく、つかわされた者はつかわした者にまさるものではない。 [ヨハ13:16]

それから、自分たちの中でだれがいちばん偉いだろうかと言って、争論が彼らの間に、起った。そこでイエスが言われた、「異邦の王たちはその民の上に君臨し、また、権力をふるっている者たちは恩人と呼ばれる。しかし、あなたがたは、そうであってはならない。かえって、あなたがたの中でいちばん偉い人はいちばん若い者のように、指導する人は仕える者のようになるべきである。食卓につく人と給仕する者と、どちらが偉いのか。食卓につく人の方ではないか。しかし、わたしはあなたがたの中で、給仕をする者のようにしている。 ■ 人の子がきたのも、仕えられるためではなく、仕えるためであり、また多くの人のあがないとして、自分の命を与えるためであるのと、ちょうど同じである。 [ルカ22:24-27 | マタ20:28]

October 21, Evening

The servant is not greater than his lord; neither he that is sent greater than he that sent him. If ye know these things, happy are ye if ye do them. [John.13:16,17]

There was ... a strife among them, which of them should be accounted the greatest. And he said unto them, The kings of the Gentiles exercise lordship over them; and they that exercise authority upon them are called benefactors. But ye shall not be so: but he that is greatest among you, let him be as the younger; and he that is chief, as he that doth serve. For whether is greater, he that sitteth at meat, or he that serveth? is not he that sitteth at meat? but I am among you as he that serveth. ■ Even the Son man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many. Jesus riseth from supper, and laid aside his garments, and took a towel, and girded himself. After that he poureth water into a basin, and began to wash the disciples' feet, and to wipe them with the towel wherewith he was girded. [John.13:3-5]
