また、祈る場合、異邦人のように、くどくどと祈るな。彼らは言葉かずが多ければ、聞きいれられるものと思っている。だから、彼らのまねをするな。あなたがたの父なる神は、求めない先から、あなたがたに必要なものはご存じなのである。 [マタ6:7,8]

彼らは･･･朝から昼までバアルの名を呼んで「バアルよ、答えてください」。 [1列18:26]

「ふたりの人が祈るために宮に上った。そのひとりはパリサイ人であり、もうひとりは取税人であった。パリサイ人は立って、ひとりでこう祈った、『神よ、わたしはほかの人たちのような貪欲な者、不正な者、姦淫をする者ではなく、また、この取税人のような人間でもないことを感謝します。ところが、取税人は遠く離れて立ち、目を天にむけようともしないで、胸を打ちながら言った、『神様、罪人のわたしをおゆるしください』と。あなたがたに言っておく。神に義とされて自分の家に帰ったのは、この取税人であって、あのパリサイ人ではなかった。おおよそ、自分を高くする者は低くされ、自分を低くする者は高くされるであろう」。 [ルカ18:10,11,13,14]

June 30, Evening

God is in heaven, and thou upon earth: therefore let thy words be few. [Eccl.5:2]

When ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking. Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him. [Matt.6:7,8]

They ... called on the name of Baal from morning even until noon, saying, O Baal, hear us. [I Kgs.18:26]

Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican. The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican. And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner. I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other. [Luke.18:10,11,13,14]
