目をさましていなさい。その日その時が、あなたがたにはわからないからである。 [マタ25:13]

あなたがたが放縦や、泥酔や、世の煩いのために心が鈍っているうちに、思いがけないとき、その日がわなのようにあなたがたを捕えることがないように、よく注意していなさい。その日は地の全面に住むすべての人に臨むのであるから。これらの起ろうとしているすべての事からのがれて、人の子の前に立つことができるように、絶えず目をさまして祈っていなさい」。 [ルカ21:34-36]

主の日は盗人が夜くるように来る。人々が平和だ無事だと言っているその矢先に、ちょうど妊婦に産みの苦しみが臨むように、突如として滅びが彼らをおそって来る。そして、それからのがれることは決してできない。しかし兄弟たちよ。あなたがたは暗やみの中にいないのだから、その日が、盗人のようにあなたがたを不意に襲うことはないであろう。あなたがたはみな光の子であり、昼の子なのである。わたしたちは、夜の者でもやみの者でもない。だから、ほかの人々のように眠っていないで、目をさまして慎んでいよう。 [1テサ5:2-6]

Watch, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man cometh. [Matt.25:13]

Take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting, and drunkenness, and cares of this life, and so that day come upon you unawares. For as a snare shall it come on all them that dwell on the face of the whole earth. Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man. [Luke.21:34-36]

The day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night. For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape. But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief. Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day; we are not of the night, nor of darkness. Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober. [I Thes.5:2-6]
