空の空、空の空、いっさいは空である。 [伝1:2]

われらのすべての日は、あなたの怒りによって過ぎ去り、われらの年の尽きるのは、ひと息のようです。われらのよわいは七十年にすぎません。あるいは健やかであっても八十年でしょう。しかしその一生はただ、ほねおりと悩みであって、その過ぎゆくことは速く、われらは飛び去るのです。 [詩90:9,10]

もしわたしたちが、この世の生活でキリストにあって単なる望みをいだいているだけだとすれば、わたしたちは、すべての人の中で最もあわれむべき存在となる。 ■ この地上には、永遠の都はない。きたらんとする都こそ、わたしたちの求めているものである。 ■ 主なるわたしは変ることがない。 ■ わたしたちの国籍は天にある。そこから、救主、主イエス・キリストのこられるのを、わたしたちは待ち望んでいる。彼は、万物をご自身に従わせうる力の働きによって、わたしたちの卑しいからだを、ご自身の栄光のからだと同じかたちに変えて下さるであろう。 ■ 被造物が虚無に服したのは、自分の意志によるのではなく、服従させたかたによる。 [1コリ15:19 | ヘブ13:14 | マラ3:6 | ピリ3:20,21 | ロマ8:20]

Vanity of vanities; all is vanity. [Eccl.1:2]

We spend our years as a tale that is told. The days of our years are threescore years and ten; and if by reason of strength they be fourscore years, yet is their strength labour and sorrow; for it is soon cut off, and we fly away. [Psa.90:9,10]

If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable. ■ Here have we no continuing city, but we seek one to come. ■ I am the Lord, I change not. ■ Our conversation [citizenship] is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ; who shall change our vile body that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body, according to the working whereby he is able even to subdue all things unto himself. ■ The creature was made subject to vanity, not willingly but by reason of him who hath subjected the same in hope.
